Knowledge rarely arrives in neat categories. It accumulates across books, articles, conversations, and half-finished thoughts, and for a while that scatter is fine. Then a threshold is crossed: there is enough in the system that finding the right idea at the right moment starts to take effort. Linko 1.5 is built around that threshold — the point where a growing body of understanding needs a little more structure to stay usable.

The guiding idea behind Linko has not changed. Notes are organized by topic rather than by where they came from, so that related thinking sits together and keeps growing over time. What 1.5 adds is a way to hold both active work and the interests you return to alongside that long-term structure, without forcing them to compete.

Projects and Areas

Most learning is not free-floating; it clusters around something. Sometimes that something is a defined effort with an endpoint — a piece of writing, a decision, a question chased over a few weeks. Sometimes it’s an ongoing part of your work or life that never really closes — a field you keep following, a responsibility you keep carrying. 1.5 gives each its own container. A Project holds the notes and resources tied to a specific, time-bound effort. An Area holds the material for a domain you return to indefinitely.

The distinction is worth keeping. A Project ends; when it does, the thinking it produced doesn’t disappear but stays connected to the topics it touched. An Area persists, quietly accumulating understanding in one place over months. Between them, active work and long-term interest each get a home, instead of being flattened into a single list.

A redesigned workspace

Navigation has been reworked around three clear surfaces. Projects & Areas holds your active efforts and ongoing domains. Resources gathers the books, articles, and other material you’re drawing from. Dates gives a time-based view of your notes. Bringing these into a cleaner arrangement makes moving between focused work and broad review take fewer steps and less thought. The aim is not more on screen, but less friction between having an idea and finding where it belongs.

Ask Linko and Linko Brief, now in the app

Two features that until now were only available on the web arrive in the app: Ask Linko and Linko Brief.

Ask Linko lets you put questions to your own knowledge. Instead of retrieving a note by remembering its title or location, you can ask in plain language and get answers drawn from what you’ve actually written and saved. It works best not as a replacement for thinking, but as a way to bring past thinking back into reach at the moment it’s useful.

Linko Brief turns attention toward connections you wouldn’t go looking for. Rather than waiting to be queried, it surfaces observations across your notes — ideas from different times and topics that turn out to speak to each other. These moments of unexpected connection are often where understanding deepens, and this feature exists to make more of them happen.

Having both in the app means this kind of questioning and rediscovery is no longer tied to the desk. Both follow the principle that shapes the rest of Linko: the system can organize, retrieve, and surface, but the understanding still forms in your mind. The role of AI here is closer to a gardener than an author.

Why these changes

Taken together, 1.5 is less about adding capability and more about keeping a growing system legible. Projects and Areas give active work and ongoing interests each a place to live. The redesigned workspace lowers the cost of moving through everything. Bringing Ask Linko and Linko Brief into the app makes what you’ve already built easy to reach wherever you are. None of this promises faster learning. What it supports is something slower and more durable — knowledge that stays connected as it grows, and keeps repaying the attention put into it.
