Your Kindle highlights, back by book
Drop the My Clippings.txt file from your Kindle. Every highlight and note comes back grouped by book, in reading order, ready to copy or download as Markdown or CSV.
Your file never leaves your browser. Nothing is uploaded or kept.
The tool needs JavaScript. The steps and answers below work without it.
Where to find My Clippings.txt
- Connect your Kindle to your computer with its USB cable.
- Open the Kindle in File Explorer or Finder and go to its documents folder.
- Drop My Clippings.txt on this page, or copy it to your computer first.
Some recent Kindles connect as a media device instead of a drive. On Windows they still open in File Explorer; on a Mac, a free app such as OpenMTP opens them.
Questions
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. This page reads the file in your browser. Nothing is sent to Linko or anyone else, and nothing is kept after you close the tab.
Why are some highlights missing?
Publishers can limit how much of a book you can clip. Past that limit the Kindle writes a placeholder instead of your words, so this page counts those highlights rather than showing them.
Why did my file have the same highlight twice?
When you change a highlight, the Kindle adds a new entry instead of replacing the old one. This page keeps the longest highlight at the same place and leaves out the earlier versions.
Does it work with highlights from the Kindle app?
No. The Kindle apps on phones and computers don’t write My Clippings.txt; only a Kindle e-reader does. Amazon shows app highlights in its Kindle Notebook.
Which Kindle languages does it read?
Files from Kindles set to English, Chinese, Spanish, German, French or Japanese. Bookmarks are left out; highlights and the notes written on them are kept.
Can I import my highlights into Linko?
Not automatically yet: Kindle import is coming. Today you can save your favourite highlights as notes in Linko, which files them into tags and topics and brings them back when they matter.
